Betty-Jo & Shawn: Cathedral Ledge Elopement

Monday evening I was rolling into Cathedral Ledge where I met my good friend Erik who had just arrived for an evening rock climbing session. It had been awhile since I last saw Erik, so it was good to catch up. The evening was cool, though a little humid, and the bugs weren’t biting, yet. It was a great night to lace up and put in a few pitches on the North Country’s finest granite. But that’s not why I was there. I was meeting up with Betty-Jo and Shawn for their intimate elopement atop the Ledge. What started 13 years ago was being made “official” at quite possibly my favorite place in New Hampshire, and I can’t think of a finer sanctuary to have such a service. Betty-Jo and Shawn would be accompanied by no one other Kim Steward, Justice of the Peace, to officiate the service and me to document it. I met them at the house they were renting for the week, and photographed a few of their special details, which included a gorgeous bouquet by Carrie at Dutch Bloement Winkle. We then headed over to Cathedral where we spent a little time at the base before heading up the auto road to their ceremony. Kim met us at the top, and we walked out to the south shoulder of the cliff to a spectacular view on an incredible evening. Following the ceremony we paused for a few more portraits at the top, and then headed down to end the evening with the sunset as seen from the strawberry fields on the way back into town. To me, the evening was perfect. I sensed that’s how Betty-Jo and Shawn felt too. Here’s a peek at their elopement…

Thank you Betty-Jo and Shawn for inviting me out to witness and document your ceremony. I am honored to have been there, and thrilled that I did not hit that moose that stepped into the road on my way home late that night!
