Chris & David: A Portsmouth Winter Wedding

In February I was excited to be joining Christine and David for their winter wedding at St. John’s Church in downtown Portsmouth, NH. Theirs would be an intimate affair with only their families and few closest friends making up the guest list.

I was to join them for only a couple of hour, so started a little early to be able to capture the church during dusk…

I was glad that I did so because in February it gets dark quickly!

Despite the cold outside, inside the church was filled with a warm glow that made you mostly forget about the chill outside…

Prior to the ceremony, Chris and David were mingling with their guests and each other…

At the appointed time, Chris and David walked down the aisle together, hand in hand, to the front of the beautiful church…

Throughout the ceremony, David and Chris stole glances between one another, little moments that I love capturing…

Near the end of the ceremony, guests were invited to come forward and surround them at the head of the church. This afforded me the opportunity to move forward myself and capture some angles that I usually am not able to…

And of course, the ceremony ended with a kiss…

Due to the cold and the darkness, we opted to do some portraits inside the church following the ceremony. Below are a few of my favorites…

With portraits and family pictures done, Chris and David had made plans to launch candle lanterns from Prescott Park. All of the guests wrote wishes for the newlyweds on the lanterns. Chris and David prepared a lantern too…

In light of the cold, wind, darkness and six block walk to the park, plans were changed to launch the lanterns from the backyard of the church. Although the goal of launching all the lanterns at once proved to be a better idea than reality due to the wind, everyone banded together to launch them one at a time…

I am pretty sure the wind made the whole thing more entertaining…

The image below is my favorite portrait of Chris and David, captured as they released their wedding day wished to one another into the February night winds…

Thank you so much to Chris and David for including me in their celebration!
