Denise & Bob: A Steele Hill Resort Wedding // NH Wedding Photographer

Well, here we go, kicking off the 2013 wedding season! I know, it’s still going to be a few months before things are in full swing again up here in the snowy Northeast, but in the meantime I am very excited to share a glimpse at Denise and Bob’s big day at Steele Hill Resort in Sanbornton, NH. Truth be told, I wish more people planned winter weddings, but then again I love the snow and cold and kinda dislike the heat and humidity that permeates much of our “wedding season”. I don’t get to photograph enough winter nuptials, so I was very excited when Bob contacted me about his January wedding. Denise and Bob were also guests at Danielle and Jason’s wedding this past June — a highlight day for me — which added to my excitement for their wedding. I LOVE referrals from past clients! Due to super hectic schedules we were never able to meet in person, though we came close one day but had to cancel the meeting as they headed out to western MA instead. But, we had several phone calls and emails and I knew going into this day that they placed a priority on photography (YAY!) and were excited to execute some creative winter images. Sweet! I think we succeeded, and David and I had a wonderful time spending the day with these two truly wonderful people. So, here we go…

Rolling into Steele Hill I was excited to see just how much snow was there. Along the seacoast we had some snow, but not this much. David and I wandered around and found some good spots to go to later on. I then met up with Denise and the ladies while David headed next door to find Bob.

Denise was finishing her makeup when I arrived…

And she and her sister were having a great time doing it…

I took a moment away to capture a few details. Love here dress…

…and the beautiful rings. These measuring cups, which were hand made and custom engraved, were part of Bob’s wedding gift to Denise…

Here is Denise and her mom, and Denise taking in her hair and makeup. Denise mentioned to me that all the primping and fuss and fancy dress wasn’t really here “thing”. Then again, she’s military, so fatigues and boots may be more commonplace for her. Regardless, she pulls it off quote well, as you’ll see…

Her dress required lots of help to get into…

She looked amazing!

Over with the guys, David was busy clicking away. Here’s Bob…

Looking sharp…

I love these two shots of Bob helping his father with his bow tie…

The man is ready to go!

But not before a toast with the guys…

Because of the short days and their late afternoon wedding ceremony, I had encouraged them to do a first look. I think at first they weren’t sold on the idea, letting tradition win out. I knew that we would not be able to get many, if any, pictures in daylight if we didn’t, but I wasn’t about to push. I understand it was after speaking with Danielle and Jason who did a first look in June that they decided it would be a good idea. I am so glad they did! We arranged for their first look up in the resort’s tower…

I loved Bob’s reaction to seeing Denise.

We paused for a few photos up in the tower…

Denise’s birdcage veil was perfect…

We then headed back downstairs, but not before stopping for a few more pictures…

And we then headed outside…

I mentioned I love Denise’s dress, right? Because, it’s worth mentioning again…

There was about 8 inches of snow, and they didn’t even blink at it. They were entirely open to anything, and were very quickly at ease in front of our four cameras. I think they only saw each other anyway!

First look and portraits done, we needed to get ready to head to the church…

David arrived first with Bob and the guys and captured these next great images…

Excellent shot, David!

Bob entrusting the ring bearer with a very important task…

Yet another great shot by David as Denise arrives. I was running in ahead of her to get setup…

Inside, Bob with his best man and father, and that very excited ring bearer, waiting…

And here comes Denise and her father…

I totally connect with this image, even though I’ll never be able to give my little girl away…

A few from the ceremony…

I love their reaction right after their kiss…

One of my favorite moments of a wedding day. Note the beautiful flowers from Lakes Region Floral Studio….

Immediately following the ceremony we snuck out behind the church for a few pictures, capturing the last bit of sunset through the trees…

Even taking a moment for a little swing. Note to future brides: if planning a winter wedding 1) thank you, and 2) bring UGG or similar boots for portraits!

We left the church and ran over to Tanner Hill Bridge for a few portraits. At this point it was getting quite dark, but that’s OK. These are a few of my favorite images from the day…

We then headed back to Steele Hill for the reception…

A few details from from inside…

The Tilt’n Bakery did a great job with the cupcake tower…

Introductions…

…were followed by Bob and Denise’s first dance…

A blessing and toasts were given…

Wedding toasts are always so entertaining, especially those by family. Bob’s father went easy on him, but Denise’s sisters… not as much…

Cutting that great big cupcake on top…

Yes, Bob got her good…

Parent dances…

A couple of great shots by David…

Parent dances were followed by a sibling dance…

And then the party kicked off…

This lad loves his aunt…

And his brother definitely put on a show. Try doing that in 20 years! It makes me hurt just thinking about it…

A few from the dance floor…

On the far right is Danielle and Jason. It was great seeing you guys!

And a last couple of images outside before David and I took off. I just love the shot on the left, and for the shot in the right it was so dark out that David needed to use my iPhone to illuminate Denise and Bob just enough for me to get focus. Let’s say just say that it wasn’t fast and it was single digit temps out. It was rugged, and Denise was AWESOME out there! And so were Bob and David, not to leave anyone else out…

Thank you Denise and Bob for having me to photograph your special day. You both wonderful all day long. What a great was to kick off 2013! Special thanks to Brittany at Steele Hill for keeping the day on track and for her great planning and coordination. And thanks again to David for your always great work and company throughout the day.
