Photographers’ Pow-Wow: A Lighting Workshop in Portsmouth

If it wasn’t already obvious, I love photography, and I love talking photography almost as much as creating images. So, last night we circled the wagons. The idea of getting a bunch of super talented photographers together to create some cool sunset and night time portraits has come up several times, and I finally made it happen last night in Portmouth, NH, despite everyone being in the thick of a busy wedding season. Our main focus was using off camera lighting techniques to create dramatic portraits at sunset and beyond. Six very talented NH photographers — plus me — converged on Pierce Island, along with two really great couples… Stephanie and Matt, who will be married in September (I can’t wait to photograph their wedding!), and my friend LacyJane and her boyfriend Patrick. We bounced around with most everyone shooting different setups and lots of great lighting conversation taking place. It is always great to get together with other like-minded folks, and I had a blast shooting different setups and learning from everyone. For those who came, thank you for being awesome!

** If you are a NH/ME/MA photographer and are interested in off-camera lighting techniques drop me a line. I’d love to chat, and I am sure we’ll be doing this again! **

On to some photos! Below are a few of the images I captured over the evening, starting with a few of Stephanie and Matt…

LacyJane is no stranger to being in front of a camera, but I’m not sure her long-time boyfriend frequents center stage, hence I thought it would be a lot of fun to work with both of them… and it was! Thank you both!
