Nicole & Marty: An Isle of Shoals Wedding

This is a long one. Probably too long, really, but Nicole and Marty’s wedding was one that I had been looking forward to all year, and I am so excited to share it! Their “destination” wedding took place on Star Island, among the Isle of Shoals, which is located ten miles off of the coast of New Hampshire. Only accessible via boat, Nicole and Marty, along with all of their guests boarded the Thomas Leighton in Portsmouth Sunday morning for the hour long cruise to the island. The wedding was to take place later that afternoon. Upon arrival, David and I had some time to explore the island and prepare for the celebration. The island itself is quite small, and on it there are a number of small buildings and stone cottages. Walking around you feel as though you’ve taken a step back in time. The paths are winding and rough, nary a door is shut — there are no bugs to worry about really, just cool ocean breezes to let it — and everywhere you turn is another stunning ocean view. I met up with Nicole prior to the ceremony, while on the other side of the rocky island David was doing the same with Marty. Their ceremony too place on along the water with a lighthouse and low sun as the backdrop. Their reception was spread all over the island, with a cocktail reception taking place in the lobby and on the porch of the historic Oceanic Hotel, dinner was in the stone Newton building, and dancing took place in the newer Brookfield building. The atmosphere was casual and laid back, and guests came and went all evening, though most danced the night away with Nicole and Marty. Monday morning guests gathered themselves at the Oceanic for breakfast and prepared for a mid-morning departure back to the mainland and reality. I had been looking forward to this weekend all summer long, and in no way did anything disappoint! In fact, I left with possibly my favorite image of 2013 to date… an image you will see below of Nicole’s 13 year old dog Esher running towards them silhouetted against the sunset. So, grab a coffee and start scrolling; here are some of my favorites…

Thank you Nicole and Marty for bringing us along for your island adventure. And a big thanks to David for joining me for the weekend. Great work by the following:
