2026 weddings kicked off in grand fashion with Esty and Saul’s AMC Highland Center wedding. While I have been past and to the Appalachian Mountain Clubs Highland Center in Crawford notch maybe hundreds of times, I had never photographed an event there. So, when Esty contacted me from Australia I jumped at the opportunity. And fortunate for me, Esty and Saul thought I was the right person for them, too!

Planning a wedding from afar is always challenging. Planning a wedding from halfway around the world even more so. Esty is from NH and Saul from Australia, where the two live. They opted for a winter wedding in New Hampshire, which is pretty much a complete opposite the weather in Australia! Both they and their guests embraced the snow and ice, and most made a long stay out of the occasion. I heard lots of sledding, hiking, and site seeing were on the agenda. But on this particular day, we all had a wedding to attend!

I met both Esty and Saul as they were getting ready, prior to their first look. We took advantage of the views a little ways up the road to get some great shots with snowy Mount Washington in the distance. Prior to losing light — days are short in January — we completed all of their family photos, outside no less! They married in the Thayer Hall in the Washburn Room, served dinner back in the main dining room at the Highland Lodge, and then danced the night away back in Thayer. It was an amazing day!

If you are planning a White Mountains wedding and are looking for something a little different, definitely check out the AMC Highland Center. In this case, Esty and Saul rented out the entire Lodge for their guests. They were able to make an amazing weekend out of the event. The Lodge features both single room and bunk rooms. The community dining room is sure to bring everyone together over meals and activities. It’s just a different vibe than staying at a big hotel and eating out at restaurants. It may not be for everyone, but if you are the kind of people who would appreciate a super elevated camp-esque experience, it might be just what you’re looking for!
