A Castle Island Engagement Session – Jaclyn & Michael

Jaclyn and Michael are getting married this coming August, but before all that, I met up with them for an engagement session at Castle Island in South Boston. While I love having engagement sessions with my clients, I’ll admit the whole thing is a bit contrived. By that I mean, pick a pretty or meaningful location, and spend a couple of hours posing making photographs. On the wedding day, while photography is important, it’s not the reason for being. But for an engagement session, on the surface, it’s all about creating pretty pictures. But there is a whole lot more to it than that! For me, it’s a great opportunity to get to know my clients better, and to spend some time learning about comfortable they are and how they react when a camera points their direction. For clients, they can get rid of any butterflies they have about being photographed and get comfortable in front of the camera and with my own approach to portraits. And, if all goes will, they get some great images and are even more excited for their wedding day photography!

Like 99% of my clients, Jaclyn and Michael were a little nervous, a little unsure what to do, but 100% on board! It didn’t take long for them to let their guard down and relax — or at least appear to relax! — with me around. Wandering around the island with them was a blast, and I was, and am, very excited for all of the images that we walked away with. Below are some of my favorites from their session…
