Great Island Common Senior Photos – Anna S.
I’m excited to share Anna’s Great Island Common senior photos. Her session took place at the end of summer, just before the start of her senior year—one of the best times for warm light and relaxed, natural portraits.
Anna chose Great Island Common for her senior session, and it’s easy to see why. This coastal New Hampshire location offers a mix of sandy beach, rocky shoreline, and open skies. Instead of repeating everything I’ve said before about this spot, I want to share a few practical tips to help you plan your own senior portraits here.
First, plan for the entrance fee. Great Island Common is a public park, and as of 2025, admission is $15 per car. You should expect to pay when you arrive. However, if you visit on a weekday later in the day, you might not be charged. It’s not guaranteed—but it does happen.
Next, think about logistics. During the summer months, the park’s bathhouse is available for outfit changes. That said, it does close in the evening. For that reason, it’s always smart to have a backup plan, like changing in your car if needed.
Timing is everything for the best senior photos. Ideally, schedule your session about an hour before sunset. This “golden hour” provides soft, flattering light and warm tones across the beach. In contrast, mid-afternoon light can be harsh and create strong shadows. By shooting closer to sunset, you’ll also have a chance to capture vibrant colors over the ocean, which adds depth and energy to your images.
Finally, consider the tide — but don’t stress about it. While low tide can reveal interesting textures, tidal pools, and extra color in the rocks, it’s not essential. Even at high tide, Great Island Common still offers beautiful backdrops for senior portraits, including both beach and coastal scenery.
With the right timing and a little planning, Great Island Common is an incredible location for NH senior photos. It combines natural beauty with versatility, making it a perfect choice for a coastal senior session.
