Burlington Vermont Engagement Photos – Kristen & Nick:

On Monday, I traveled north to Burlington to meet Kristen and Nick for their winter engagement session. As a Vermont wedding photographer, I always enjoy photographing in Burlington. However, winter sessions here can be intense.

Burlington is lively in the summer. In contrast, winter brings freezing temperatures and strong winds off Lake Champlain. Our goal for this session was simple: capture sunset engagement photos by the water.

It was definitely cold. In fact, my car read 4 degrees as I left the city. Fortunately, there was almost no wind, which made a huge difference.

We started near City Hall and then explored Church Street. This area always offers great textures, lights, and energy for engagement photos. After that, we made our way down to the lake for sunset.

To stay warm, we kept moving the entire time. Even so, the cold eventually caught up with us. After sunset, Kristen joked that she couldn’t smile anymore because her face was numb. That was our cue to wrap things up.

Despite the cold, this session was a lot of fun. I was bundled up like I was heading out ice climbing, so I was ready for it. Plus, the setting made it worth it. At one point, we were photographing next to a harbor cruise ship frozen into the ice—definitely a unique Vermont winter scene.

Overall, these Burlington Vermont engagement photos highlight just how adventurous winter sessions can be. I’m already looking forward to photographing Kristen and Nick’s wedding and bringing that same energy into their Vermont wedding photography.

For now, here are a few of my favorite images from their Lake Champlain engagement session.
