Lonesome Lake Adventure Wedding – NH Adventure Photographer

They say a bad day in the mountains in better than a good day anywhere else. This applies to Sarah and Bob’s Lonesome Lake adventure wedding. Lonesome Lake rests 3 miles above I-93 in Franconia Notch, just below the Kinsman Ridge. It’s a spectacular spot, and home to the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Lonesome Lake Hut. If you’re not familiar with AMC’s hut system, there are a eight huts spread throughout the White Mountain National Forest. They are rustic bunk houses open to the public (for a fee). Sarah and Bob rented the entire hut for their wedding.

What they didn’t plan on was torrential rain for the entire day. I met up with everyone at the trailhead as bags were adjusted and raincoats put on. It’s a moderate hike to the hut, and one I have done numerous times, but never in the rain while photographing. The group spread out and slowly everyone found their way to the lake. Once dried off and cleaned up, wedding plans kicked off. Sarah and Bob each got ready for the main event in their own bunk room with their wedding party. We did portraits in the rain, and their ceremony on the porch of the main building so guests could remain dry. Their reception stayed toasty inside hosted by the hut staff Croo.
