Plum Island Sunrise Engagement Photos – Meghan & Matt

There is something special about Plum Island sunrise engagement photos. The beach is quiet, the light is soft, and the colors are incredible. That was exactly the setting for Meghan and Matt’s engagement session.
For this sunrise engagement session, we met on Plum Island just before 6:00 AM. Although waking up that early can be a challenge, the light before sunrise makes it completely worthwhile. In fact, the moments just before the sun appears above the horizon are some of my favorite conditions to photograph.
When we arrived, the beach was still mostly dark. However, a faint glow on the horizon hinted at the beautiful sunrise to come. It was also a chilly morning by the ocean. Meghan and Matt had traveled from New Jersey, where the temperatures were much warmer. Even so, they were absolute troopers. Despite the cold, they happily set their jackets aside for photos and made the most of the experience.
As the sun began to rise, we explored the beach and created a variety of portraits along the shoreline. The soft morning light added a romantic feel to every image. In addition, the empty beach gave us plenty of room to work without distractions.
After about an hour on Plum Island, we headed into downtown Newburyport for a second part of the session. The historic streets and charming architecture provided a completely different backdrop for their engagement photos. As a result, Meghan and Matt received a gallery with a great mix of coastal and urban images.
By 8:30 AM, the sun was fully established in the sky, and we wrapped up the session. One of the best parts of a sunrise engagement session is finishing early and still having the entire day ahead of you.
Meghan and Matt were wonderful to work with, and I loved spending the morning with them. Below are some of my favorite images from their Plum Island sunrise engagement photos.
