Mexico Engagement Photos – Huatulco, Mexico

Last week, I had the opportunity to travel to one of the most beautiful destinations I’ve ever photographed: Huatulco, Mexico. For anyone considering destination engagement photography or a destination wedding in Mexico, it’s hard to imagine a more stunning location.
Although I have visited Mexico’s Riviera Maya several times, this was my first trip to the Pacific coast. Immediately, I fell in love with the landscape. Unlike the flat beaches of the Caribbean side, Huatulco features dramatic cliffs rising from the ocean, secluded coves, and breathtaking coastal views. As a destination wedding photographer, I am always excited to explore new locations, and this one quickly became a favorite.
The trip brought together more than 40 photographers and friends from across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Throughout the week, we spent time learning, collaborating, and photographing alongside some of the top wedding photographers in the industry. Not only was it an incredible educational experience, but it also provided endless inspiration.
One of the highlights of the trip was photographing several wonderful couples in this tropical paradise. Destination engagement photography offers opportunities that simply don’t exist at home. From swaying palm trees and pristine beaches to dramatic ocean cliffs and vibrant sunsets, every location seemed tailor-made for stunning portraits.
As a New Hampshire-based destination wedding photographer, I am accustomed to photographing couples among mountains, forests, and historic New England venues. However, photographing engagement sessions in Mexico provided a completely different creative experience. The warm ocean air, tropical scenery, and endless coastal views created a unique backdrop that felt both romantic and adventurous.
Of course, the sunsets were spectacular. During our final evening session, the sky exploded with color as the sun dropped into the Pacific Ocean. The conditions were perfect for creating dramatic destination engagement photos. A special thanks goes out to Nathan Desch and Jason Prezant, who literally jumped into the water to help hold lights and make those final images possible.
Whether you’re planning a destination wedding in Mexico, an engagement session on a tropical beach, or a celebration somewhere far from home, locations like Huatulco offer endless opportunities for unforgettable photographs. This trip reminded me why I love destination wedding photography so much. New places, incredible scenery, and adventurous couples always lead to amazing images.
