UMass Amherst Engagement Session – Judy & Huan

Last week, I met up with Judy and Huan for their engagement photos at University of Massachusetts Amherst—the place where their story first began. Choosing a meaningful location like their college campus made the session feel personal from the start.

Although we had been enjoying a stretch of cool weather, Monday brought heat and humidity to central Massachusetts. Even so, campus sessions are always worth it. In fact, college campuses offer a wide variety of backdrops, from classic architecture to quiet corners that are perfect for more intimate moments.

We started outside the dorm where Judy and Huan first met. From there, we explored different parts of campus, stopping wherever the light and scenery felt right. Along the way, they were completely open to trying new ideas. At one point, we even created portraits in a parking garage using an off-camera flash balanced on a trash can. Because of their willingness to trust the process, we were able to create a really diverse set of images.

As the evening went on, the light only got better. Eventually, we were treated to a beautiful sunset, which added a warm glow to the final part of the session. After that, we wrapped things up with a few nighttime portraits to round out the gallery.

Overall, this UMass Amherst engagement session was a great mix of meaningful locations, creative lighting, and genuine moments. I’m already looking forward to photographing Judy and Huan’s wedding later this month at the Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa in Whitefield.
